And Full Stop.

A man in a suit with a finger to his eye crying. And full stop. technique would be helpful emotionally.

You feel sad.
Let yourself feel sad, the utter sorrow, the grief, the heartbreak.
Mind will interpret this as wrong and see it as a sign of weakness,
It will push and shove and rush to get you back to happiness.
Instead… put a full stop at sadness and let yourself feel the sadness,
Because right now that is how you are.

You feel confused.
Allow yourself to feel confused.
Sometimes, we just don’t know and that’s OK.
Place a full stop at confusion.
Not a comma or a semi colon, a very definite full stop.
Stop the trajectory of trying to reach for an answer, for clarity, for certainty.
Wholeheartedly give confusion its moment of glory.

You feel angry.
Accept that you are angry right now.
Let it roar and rip throughout your body and senses!!!
Mind may see anger as negative, unhealthy, unspiritual…
But… put a full stop at anger.
In this moment forget about peace,
Recognise that anger is here and it wants to be felt.

Whatever you are feeling place a full stop just there.
Pause the onward journey,
Don’t rush to get to anywhere else.
Drop every agenda and wish for it to be any different.
Give your undivided attention to what is calling for your attention.
Move closer with kindness and compassion to the body, to these feelings, to your delicate heart.
Allow yourself to be with whatever is happening,
Engulf yourself in its immediate felt sense.

Ironically, this technique of putting in a full stop and being with the current emotion (our sadness, our confusion, our anger) often leads us naturally to happiness, clarity and peace.
