I’m A Mess, Aren’t We All?

A hand covered in many different paints symbolising being human.

A hand covered in many different paints symbolising being human.

You will never be perfect,
And… you will never not be perfect.

Some days you will be more perfect than others,
And… on other days you will be more of a mess than others.

BUT…
Where does this idea of perfect or a mess come from?
Was it your idea?
Someone else’s?
Society’s?
Where does perfect end and mess start… or mess end and perfect start?
Is there a ‘perfect’ middle ground, a sweet spot not being either but both…?
What is the criteria?
Can I take a quiz to find out where I am today?!!!
And what happens if I take that quiz and it says today I’m a total mess or today I am absolutely perfect?

We try our very hardest to be perfect and avoid being a mess at all costs.
We hold ourselves accountable and hostage to this idea,
Crippling ourselves in the process,
Squeezing every bit of life out of life.

Today I recognise I am a mess and laugh out loud because I stopped trying to be anything else.

What a relief as I let myself be as I am,
Completely as I am!

The effort drops,
The rigidity,
The self-control.

My body breathes a deep sigh of relief.

I am a proud mess,
A human mess not some robot.
A unique mess with messy qualities, lovable parts and infallibilities.

I have always been a mess,
I will always be a mess.

I am a mess,
A perfect mess,
Aren’t we all…?!!!
